Like Cheryl Cole's hair extensions in the L’Oreal shampoo ads, this is a FAKE! Photoshop works its magic once again.

Strangeness on a Train is now available to preorder as a free Kindle download.

“Turning fifty has not filled Sally with joy. She’s sitting on the Kings Cross to Harrogate train the morning after her disastrous birthday meal, feeling fed up and hungover to hell. And then a stranger climbs on board and sits down opposite her. You know those passengers who really, really annoy you on trains? The ones who invade your personal space, and worse? Well, he’s one of those. And he’s about to push Sally to breaking point.”

If you haven’t got a Kindle, you can still download and read the story on your Mac or PC by downloading the free kindle app from here (Mac) or here (PC).

If you don’t have access to a Mac or a PC, (and I’m kind of wondering how you are reading this if you don’t…), then you can come to the marvellous Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, where beautiful real, actual, tangible copies will be tucked into goody bags and left on the seats. You might even – if you are travelling on the London-Harrogate East Coast train – have one handed to you.

Of course, there are other reasons to head up to Harrogate for the 19-22 July – take a look at the fantastic authors who are coming from all over the world to be there. Check out the programme of exciting panels, events and talks. And there’s a great bar, where you can meet everyone in between and after events.

And if you can’t make your way up to Harrogate, then watch this space. There may be one other way to get your mitts on a copy of Strangeness on a Train. But that’s another story…
