We are over half way through our trip to New York. I have a load of notes, and a much more vivid idea of the setting of novel #2. We have just got back Upstate from a trip to the city, and I think I might take my characters down there for a day and a night. It is so like entering a pressure cooker, going into the city after experiencing the green and open space of the Northern Catskills. All the people! The humidity that makes you feel like you are living inside a tumble drier! The yellow miasma of car exhaust, human breath and the exhalations of air conditioning! Just the sort of trip to ramp up the tension a notch or two.
But we had a great time – lunch with my lovely New York agent in the Village. I took Littleson along with me, and he was so well behaved – not hard for him though, because she was so interested in him, engaging him at all times. What’s the female version of Avuncular? I have given her the most recent, copy-edited version of the manuscript and she is sure we will find a publisher in the US. She said she was surprised to find me so upbeat and optimistic when my writing is so dark and sinister. I surprise myself too.
